The Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) has achieved a major milestone in its Emergency Department Renovation Improvement Project at Brantford General Hospital (BGH).

BCHS Communications Advisor Scott Hiebert provided detailed insights into the progress, including the permanent re-routing of the B-Wing, Level 1 corridor as of Friday, January 10, 2025. This critical change paves the way for the construction of the new Ambulatory Assessment Area, a key component of the modernization project.

“The new Ambulatory Assessment Area is designed to address the growing needs of our community while enhancing the overall patient experience,” Hiebert explained. “The addition of 9,795 square feet of modernized patient care space will allow us to better meet the needs of patients and provide more private and comfortable care environments.”

Set for completion in Spring 2025, the new area will feature six single-patient treatment rooms, six treatment chairs, and a minor procedures room. It will also include spaces designed for children and patients with disabilities, ensuring greater accessibility and comfort. Updated equipment such as modern stretchers and improved seating in the waiting room will further enhance patient care.

In preparation for the corridor re-routing, BCHS worked closely with EMS and Fire partners, Patient and Family Advisors, and Clinical Teams to address safety and accessibility concerns. “Enhanced wayfinding and signage have been implemented to assist patients, staff, and visitors during the transition,” Hiebert said.

The renovation project reflects BCHS’s commitment to improving outdated infrastructure in a hospital whose buildings are over 50 years old. Hiebert emphasized the importance of these upgrades: “This modernization represents a significant step forward in creating a more efficient and patient-centered Emergency Department.”

To keep the community informed, BCHS encourages residents to visit reimaginebchs.ca for updates, including a map of the re-routed B-Wing, Level 1 corridor.

“We thank the community for their continued support and cooperation during this transformative process,” Hiebert added.

The Emergency Department Renovation Improvement Project is a cornerstone of BCHS’s vision for the future, ensuring Brantford General Hospital continues to provide exceptional care for the growing community.
