Brantford’s International Film Series will return this winter, offering six free screenings between January and March 2025, showcasing global perspectives and fostering cultural dialogue.

Organized by the City of Brantford in collaboration with Wilfrid Laurier University’s Brantford campus, the series invites residents to explore stories from six countries through critically acclaimed films.

The screenings will take place at the Steven and Helen Kun Theatre, located at the Research and Academic Centre on Dalhousie Street, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and films starting at 7 p.m. Admission is free, but seating is limited. Tickets can be reserved online, and walk-ins will be welcomed if space permits.

The winter lineup includes Angry Indian Goddesses (India) on January 16, Shoplifters (Japan) on January 30, Let the Right One In (Sweden) on February 13, Once (Ireland) on February 27, Wadjda (Saudi Arabia) on March 13, and Rams (Iceland) on March 27. Each film will be preceded by an introduction and discussion to deepen audience engagement with the stories and themes.

“The series continues to draw strong community support, showing just how much Brantford values diverse cultural experiences,” said Christina Han, director of the Hub for Community Solutions at Laurier.

“These films open windows to different perspectives, sparking important conversations and building connections.” Since its launch in 2023, the series has welcomed more than 400 attendees and highlighted films from 13 countries. It aligns with the city’s commitment to inclusivity and cultural engagement, supported by the Brantford Immigration Partnership and Inclusive Community Plan.

“This initiative goes beyond film screenings—it’s about creating a space for people to connect and reflect on global stories,” said Taylor Berzins, Brantford’s Community Initiatives Coordinator.
