The County of Brant celebrated the lifeblood of its community on Thursday, December 5, recognizing the dedication of volunteers at the 2nd Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony. Held at the TF Warren Group Cainsville Community Centre, the event brought together local leaders, community members, and honorees to mark International Volunteer Day and spotlight the efforts that sustain Brant’s vibrant spirit.

Mayor David Bailey, addressing the attendees, emphasized the profound impact of volunteerism. “Volunteers are the backbone of our communities, and we are incredibly grateful for their dedication,” Bailey said. “From service clubs to sports organizations, or individuals giving their time, these volunteers enrich the County of Brant. While one evening cannot encapsulate the full extent of our gratitude, we want them to know the difference they make. We cannot thank them enough.”

The ceremony recognized 31 individuals and groups across categories that highlighted emerging talent, long-term dedication, and significant community contributions. The introduction of the Simply Grand Volunteers awards this year paid tribute to those who have committed 15 or more years to local service organizations, including Robert Brooks, who has served the St. George Lions Club for an extraordinary 60 years.

Other honorees included the Burford Dancers and the Brant County Cricket League by Panthers Cricket Club, celebrated for their community impact, and young leaders like Isabella Todd, recognized for her emerging role in shaping Brant’s future. Each award underscored the diverse ways in which volunteers enhance the county’s quality of life.

“Volunteers invest countless hours and immeasurable energy into creating opportunities for our residents,” said Sarah Dredge, Manager of Recreation Services. “Their contributions aren’t just about events or programs—they define the essence of our community.”

The event also showcased the evolution of Brant’s recognition efforts, expanding from past formats to include those who lead community-run initiatives. This broadened scope allowed for a more inclusive celebration of contributions, from recreational programming to major cultural and social events.

As the ceremony concluded, the atmosphere reflected a collective appreciation for those who give selflessly to their community. The awards were a poignant reminder of the transformative power of volunteerism in fostering a sense of connection and belonging in the County of Brant.
