Grand Erie is expanding its commitment to fostering growth and learning for young children with the groundbreaking of a new childcare centre at Banbury Heights School on November 25, 2024. The new facility promises to provide a nurturing and engaging environment for infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children, marking an exciting milestone for the community.

Director of Education JoAnna Roberto expressed her enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing its significance for the community.
“Soon, this space will echo with laughter, learning, and the sound of children discovering the world around them – a powerful reminder of why we do what we do,” Roberto shared during the event.

The childcare centre, developed in partnership with the BGC (Boys and Girls Club), will feature designated rooms for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers to ensure a smooth transition into school life. The BGC has been a trusted childcare provider for the Banbury Heights community for nearly 30 years, offering programming that supports families and fosters a strong foundation for children’s development.

“We are privileged to share in the responsibilities of supporting a child’s physical, emotional, and social development with the team of educators and support staff at Banbury Heights,” said Amy Valetta, Executive Director at BGC. “The BGC looks forward to continuing our work together to ensure that children, youth, and families get the best wrap-around support possible from early years through adolescence into adulthood.”

The event was attended by members of the City of Brantford, including Mayor Kevin Davis, who praised the project for its community-centered approach.
“These new learning spaces will offer families not only convenience but also the opportunity to connect with the school community — a connection that we know can significantly enhance a child’s learning outcomes,” Mayor Davis stated.

The childcare centre underscores Grand Erie’s commitment to its values of learning, well-being, and belonging, ensuring every child and family has access to quality educational opportunities.

Roberto closed the event with a reflection on the broader vision for the project:
“Together, we are shaping a future that reflects Grand Erie’s values of learning, well-being, and belonging for all.”

The new childcare centre represents a promising step forward for Grand Erie, Banbury Heights, and the Brantford community, ensuring children have a strong foundation to thrive from their earliest years.
