Brantford Police Arrest Armed Suspect Following Collision and Public Tip

Brantford Police arrested a 39-year-old woman on December 3, 2024, after a collision and reports of a firearm prompted a significant police response. At around 3:10 p.m., 911 received a call reporting a single-vehicle collision near Kiwanis Way and Glenwood Drive. The caller stated that a woman involved in the crash, allegedly armed with a handgun, had fled on foot toward a retail plaza on Colborne Street.

Officers quickly responded, initiating a thorough search of the area. The suspect was located and apprehended inside a fast-food restaurant at the intersection of Stanley Street and Darling Street. As a precaution, two nearby schools were placed under temporary lockdown to ensure public safety during the search.

Upon arrest, police determined the woman was in possession of a BB gun, which was seized. Further investigation revealed she was wanted on outstanding warrants and had violated a probation order. During the arrest, the situation escalated when the suspect assaulted and bit an officer. Both the suspect and the injured officer were transported to the hospital for treatment, with the suspect also receiving medical attention for suspected drug use.

Following the investigation, the 39-year-old Brantford woman was charged with assaulting a peace officer causing bodily harm, possession of a firearm or weapon, and failing to comply with a probation order. She remains in custody and has been held for a bail hearing.
