The City of Brantford and Doug “The Great” Hunt, along with his 2023 Stilt Walking Support Team, unveiled a new Guinness World Record display today at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre, 254 North Park Street.

The display celebrates Doug Hunt’s record-breaking feat of mastering the tallest stilts ever used. On October 21, 2023, during the sports centre’s 10th Anniversary Celebration, Hunt took 14 unassisted steps on 55-foot-tall stilts, setting the Guinness World Record.

The stilts, made of carbon fibre and weighing 140 pounds, are featured alongside the Brantford Bulldogs jersey Hunt wore during the attempt, his Guinness World Record certificate, and memorabilia from his 2002 record for Tallest and Heaviest Stilts.

“Our goal was to break the record and raise funds for those unable to walk for themselves,” said Hunt.

“I’m proud to share that we raised $28,000 for Brantford’s Participation Support Services.”

Mayor Kevin Davis praised the achievement, stating, “This accomplishment demonstrates the power of community and the dedication of individuals like Doug and his team to make a difference.”

The new display invites visitors to celebrate this inspiring achievement and the contributions it has made to the Brantford community.
