Former American boxer Mike Tyson, 58, was defeated by YouTuber and social media sensation Jake Paul, 27, in a professional boxing match on Friday night in Arlington, Texas.

Tyson, who had not fought professionally since 2005, was outclassed by Paul over eight two-minute rounds. The judges unanimously awarded the victory to Paul, who expressed his admiration for the legendary boxer after the match.

“It’s an honor. Mike Tyson is a legend, the greatest of all time, and he’s always been an inspiration. It was tough, as expected,” said Jake Paul.

Tyson, gracious in defeat, reflected on his performance. “I’m happy with what I managed to do,” he said.

The return of “Iron Mike” garnered significant attention, overshadowing even his younger opponent. The fight was held at the Dallas Cowboys’ stadium in Arlington, Texas, in front of over 72,000 spectators and was also broadcast on Netflix.

This marked Tyson’s first professional fight in nearly two decades, though he participated in an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020, which took place without spectators due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tyson, a former world heavyweight champion, retired in 2005 with a record of 50 wins (44 by knockout) and six losses. Despite his illustrious career, Tyson’s time in the ring was cut short by legal troubles, including two prison sentences in 1992 and 1999, and financial struggles that led to his bankruptcy 21 years ago.

For Jake Paul, the win over one of boxing’s all-time greats adds a significant achievement to his growing resume as he continues to transition from internet celebrity to professional athlete. For Tyson, the match may well be the final chapter of an extraordinary and tumultuous career.
