The Brantford-Brant Business Resource Centre (BRC) has opened applications for the 2025 Summer Company Student Grant Program, providing financial support and business mentorship to aspiring young entrepreneurs. Eligible applicants, aged 15 to 29, are encouraged to apply online before Friday, May 16, 2025, for the opportunity to launch and operate their own summer business.

Successful applicants will receive an initial grant of up to $1,500 to assist with start-up costs, followed by an additional $1,500 upon successful completion of the program. Participants will also benefit from hands-on training and guidance in key business areas such as financial management, marketing, sales, customer service, and inventory control.

“The Summer Company Student Grant Program offers young entrepreneurs a financial boost and real-world business experience,” said Mae Legg, Manager of Economic Development and Business Resource Centre, City of Brantford. “The program teaches students all aspects of running a business, from managing finances to handling customer relations and operational logistics.”

For over 15 years, the BRC has administered the program for students in Brantford, Brant County, Haldimand and Norfolk counties, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, and Six Nations of the Grand River. Funded by the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, the program aims to develop entrepreneurial skills and leadership qualities in young business owners. Past participants have successfully launched businesses in various fields, including lawn care, dog treat production, tennis coaching, senior wellness services, window washing, car detailing, pool cleaning, and 3D printing. Many participants have continued their ventures beyond the summer, with some expanding their businesses into year-round operations.

Madison Nantais, a 2024 Summer Company participant, shared her experience: “Summer Company was such an amazing experience. I started my own lawn care business, and it felt amazing to be my own boss and make real money doing something I enjoyed. I learned how to find customers, manage my schedule, and track my earnings. If you’re thinking about starting a business, this program is the perfect way to try it out.”

Applications for the 2025 Summer Company Student Grant Program can be submitted online at www.brantford.ca/SummerCompany until the deadline of Friday, May 16, 2025. Additional inquiries can be directed to Natalie Walker, Small Business Consultant at BRC, via email at nwalker@brantford.ca or by phone at 519-756-4269.
