Hockey Canada and the Brantford Police Service (BPS) are investigating a reported incident involving an under-15 Brantford minor hockey player who allegedly made concerning remarks toward a teammate in a social media group chat.

An investigation by Hockey Canada’s Independent Third Party (ITP) has been launched, and five players accused of bullying have been suspended as a result.

The Brantford Police Service has confirmed that it is dedicating resources to the situation and emphasized that it takes all allegations of this nature seriously, particularly those involving minors. Due to the involvement of young persons, police are limited in the information they can disclose under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The Brantford Minor Hockey Association (BMHA) has also responded to concerns circulating on social media, reaffirming its commitment to player safety and adherence to Hockey Canada’s guidelines for handling maltreatment.

In a statement, the BMHA Board of Directors acknowledged the discussions surrounding the situation and reassured the community that the matter is being taken seriously.

“The safety and well-being of all minors in our programs are our top priorities,” the BMHA stated, adding that board members have been actively involved since the matter was brought to their attention.

While specific details were not disclosed due to privacy constraints, the organization emphasized its dedication to transparency within its policy limits. The BMHA encouraged those seeking more information to visit its Complaint Process and Safe Sport pages. Community members with concerns were invited to contact the association directly.

Police have not provided further details but assured the public that they continue to monitor and address the situation.
