The County of Brant is set to activate its first Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) camera in early February, marking a significant step in its Brant Safe Streets Strategy.

Located on Silver Street near North Ward Public School in Paris, the camera has been in place since October 2024 as part of an awareness and testing phase.

During this period, no fines were issued, but enforcement will soon begin.

Once operational, the ASE system will automatically issue fines to drivers exceeding the posted speed limit.

The fine structure is based on the severity of the violation, with penalties starting at $5 per kilometer over the limit and increasing up to $19.50 per kilometer for excessive speeding.

Additional costs, including a victim fine surcharge mandated by the Province of Ontario, will also apply.

The ASE initiative is focused on enhancing road safety, particularly in designated Community Safety Zones.

Officials emphasize that the program aims to encourage safer driving habits and protect pedestrians, cyclists, and schoolchildren in high-risk areas.

The County of Brant will announce the exact date when enforcement begins and will install clear signage to notify drivers of the ASE camera’s activation.

More information is available at brant.ca/ASE.
