The Brantford Public Library has officially renamed the local history room at its Main Branch as the “Geoffrey Moyer Local History Room,” a tribute to the late library technician whose work significantly advanced the preservation and accessibility of local history.

Geoffrey Moyer, who worked at the library from 2000 to 2024, was celebrated for his dedication to documenting and digitizing local historical resources. “Geoffrey was so generous with sharing his vast knowledge in this area,” said Rae-Lynne Aramburo, CEO and Chief Librarian of the Brantford Public Library. “Staff and customers alike were impressed by him and fond of him.”

A commemorative event, attended by library staff, friends, and family, marked the renaming. “It’s such a fitting tribute,” Aramburo said. “The results of Geoffrey’s work are lasting and extensive, and he deserves the recognition.”

Beyond his role at the library, Moyer was a dedicated historian with a passion for preserving local narratives. He founded the Great War Centenary Association (doingourbit.ca), which developed educational resources and a detailed database highlighting the contributions of Brantford, Brant County, and Six Nations to the First World War. After nearly a decade of research and work, the organization is set to dissolve, with its archives being transferred to the Brantford Public Library for ongoing public access.

The library’s local history collection, both physical and digital, remains a vital resource for those researching family and regional history. It includes extensive records such as birth, marriage, and death indexes, historical maps, newspapers dating back to the 1850s, and more. Its Digital Archives also feature a wide range of digitized materials, including books, biographies, and school yearbooks.
