Brantford’s downtown core is gearing up for a syrup-soaked showdown as Temptation Kitchen prepares to host the city’s first-ever Waffle Eating Competition on January 25, 2025, at 12:00pm. The event marks the restaurant’s second anniversary and promises to bring together food lovers, families, and competitive eaters for a lighthearted celebration.

The competition will see six contestants face off to determine who can eat the most waffles in five minutes, with prizes awarded to the top three participants. The winner will take home a $100 gift card to Temptation Kitchen, while the second- and third-place finishers will receive gift certificates for local businesses.

Edward Bernstein, Owner and Head Chef of Temptation Kitchen, said the idea for the contest was inspired by a desire to celebrate the restaurant milestone in a fun and engaging way.

“For our second anniversary, we wanted to do something unique and grand that brings the community together,” Bernstein said. “A Waffle Eating Competition is a fun way to get people involved and let them show off their love for waffles. It’s lighthearted, a little cooky, and perfect for all ages.”

The day-long celebration will also feature $5 Waffle Pops and $10 Savoury Wafflewiches, giving visitors a taste of the restaurant’s signature menu items. Families and friends are encouraged to stop by, cheer on contestants, and take advantage of the special deals.

Bernstein emphasized that the event is not just about waffles—it’s about community.

“We want to help revitalize the downtown core,” he said. “Surviving two years as a small business is a big achievement, and we want to play a role in improving people’s perception of downtown Brantford. Hosting events like this allows us to bring in people from out of town and put both Temptation Kitchen and Brantford on the map.”

With over 100 waffles expected to be prepared for the competition, Bernstein and his team are anticipating a strong turnout.

“Last year, our anniversary drew more than 100 visitors, and we’re expecting even more this year,” he said. “We’ll have 30 seats available for the competition itself, but people will be coming and going throughout the day.”

Bernstein is already looking to the future, hinting that the Waffle Eating Competition could become an annual tradition.

“Brantford loves indulgence and friendly competition, so this combines the best of both worlds,” he said. “We’re definitely considering making this an annual event—or even hosting a Waffle Eating Championship in the future.”

Temptation Kitchen has developed a reputation for inventive programming, having previously hosted live music events, an Easter Murder Mystery, a Halloween Escape Game, and a Christmas Elf Camp. Bernstein said the restaurant is always brainstorming new ways to engage the community and keep the energy alive in Brantford’s downtown core.

“We love seeing people come together and enjoy themselves,” Bernstein said. Whether it’s through food, games, or performances, we’re committed to creating an inclusive space where people can connect and have fun.”

Spectators are welcome to attend for free, cheer on contestants, and enjoy the restaurant’s anniversary deals throughout the day.

Bernstein hopes the event will draw attention not only to Temptation Kitchen but also to the potential for more vibrant, community-driven events in Brantford.

“We’re here to celebrate food, fun, and friendship,” he said. “And what better way to do that than with waffles?”
