Prime Minister Justin Trudeau extended warm wishes to Canadians today, marking Christmas as a time for reflection, gratitude, and compassion.

In his official statement, Trudeau highlighted the holiday season as an opportunity to come together with loved ones, share in celebrations, and give thanks for the blessings of the past year.

“For Christians, it’s a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and think about his story of kindness, forgiveness, and faith,” Trudeau said. “The lessons of his life are universal, and they inspire and comfort people every time they’re told – and retold.”

Acknowledging that the holidays can be challenging for those experiencing grief, loneliness, or hardship, the Prime Minister urged Canadians to reach out to one another.

“This can be the toughest time of the year. It can be the loneliest. So let’s all check in on the people in our lives who have not had an easy time this year, and who may need us more than we know,” he said.

Trudeau also took a moment to honor the contributions of Canada’s service members, first responders, and essential workers.

“Let us also take a moment to thank those who give so much of themselves to make Canada the place we are proud to call home, including the brave members of our Canadian Armed Forces, the dedicated first responders and essential workers, and the countless volunteers.”

Reflecting on the year gone by, Trudeau encouraged Canadians to embrace love and kindness as guiding principles for the year ahead.

“I wish joy to everyone who is celebrating today, and comfort to those who are suffering,” Trudeau concluded. “Wherever you are, I hope you find light and hope for the year ahead. Merry Christmas.”

As families across the country gather to celebrate, Trudeau’s words serve as a reminder of the importance of connection, generosity, and unity during the holiday season.
