The Brantford-Brant Business Resource Centre (BRC) is now accepting applications for the 2026 Summer Company Student Grant Program, offering young entrepreneurs the opportunity to start and operate their own businesses during the summer months.
Students aged 15 to 29 living in the City of Brantford, County of Brant, Haldimand County, Norfolk County, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, and Six Nations of the Grand River are eligible to apply. Successful applicants can receive up to $3,000 in grant funding to help launch their ventures.
Applications must be submitted online at Brantford.ca/SummerCompany by Friday, May 15, 2026.
“The Summer Company Program continues to be one of the most impactful ways we support young entrepreneurs in our community,” said Mae Legg, Manager of Economic Development and Business Resource Centre for the City of Brantford. “Each year, we’re inspired by the creativity, talent, and determination these students bring as they launch their own businesses.”
Legg added that the program provides not only start-up funding but also practical experience and mentorship, helping students build confidence and develop business skills relevant to today’s economy.
The Summer Company Program, funded by the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, has been administered locally by the BRC for more than 15 years. Participants receive guidance in developing a business plan, managing finances, marketing their services, and operating a small business.
Past student-run businesses have included lawn care services, homemade dog treats, tennis coaching, wellness support for seniors, window washing, car detailing, pool cleaning, and 3D printing ventures. Many participants continue operating their businesses beyond the summer or return to the program in future years.
Cowan Gelms, a participant in the 2025 program, said the experience had a lasting impact.
“2025 was an unforgettable and incredible summer,” Gelms said. “I learned how to build and operate a company I never thought would exist. I learned discipline, how to manage my time and money, and how to effectively deal with customers.”
