A 29-year-old Hamilton resident is facing multiple charges after allegedly travelling at nearly double the posted speed limit on Colborne Street East Tuesday evening.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), an officer with the Brant County detachment conducted a traffic stop at approximately 6:45 p.m. on February 17, 2026, after observing a vehicle travelling 145 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
Police have charged the driver with stunt driving, excessive speed, as well as speeding.
Under Ontario’s stunt driving legislation, drivers found exceeding the speed limit by 40 km/h or more in zones under 80 km/h, or by 50 km/h or more in zones of 80 km/h or higher, face immediate roadside penalties.
As a result of the stop, the driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
The OPP continues to remind motorists that excessive speed significantly increases the risk of collisions and serious injuries.
Officers say enforcement efforts remain ongoing throughout the region to promote road safety and reduce dangerous driving behaviours.
Anyone who witnesses aggressive or dangerous driving is encouraged to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
