The City of Brantford is advising residents and visitors of an upcoming road closure at the intersection of Icomm Drive and Market Street South, beginning Thursday, February 5, 2026.
The closure is scheduled to remain in effect until Friday, February 13, 2026, to facilitate essential underground infrastructure investigations.
Motorists are advised to follow all posted detour signage and to allow additional travel time when navigating the downtown area.
Despite the closure, access to the Market Centre Parkade will remain available via Hill Street, Wharfe Street, and through the Brantford Farmers’ Market. Parkade users should note that the sole exit is located on the west end, exiting onto Hill Street.
Pedestrian access across Market Street South will be maintained outside of the affected intersection, ensuring continued walkability through most of the downtown core.
In addition, from February 5 to February 13, pedestrian-accessible scaffolding at 38 Market Street—along the Market Street and Dalhousie Street sides—will be removed.
This work, expected to take approximately three days, will temporarily close adjacent sidewalks.
The removal is being conducted by a private contractor operating under a City-approved permit, as part of building façade improvements. Outside of this short closure period, the existing scaffolding will continue to provide a safe, covered walkway for pedestrians.
The City emphasizes that local businesses remain open throughout the construction period and encourages the community to continue supporting downtown merchants.
“We appreciate the public’s patience as this necessary infrastructure work is carried out,” said a City spokesperson.
“Efforts are being made to minimize disruption while ensuring public safety and long-term improvements.”
