Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) has appointed Dr. Andrew Burkett as its new Chief of Staff and Vice President, Medical & Academic Affairs, effective Feb. 9, 2026.
Dr. Burkett, a respirologist and interventional pulmonologist, has served as Chief and Medical Director of Internal Medicine at BCHS for the past three years. The organization says he brings extensive clinical leadership experience and a strong focus on quality of care and medical education.
“Dr. Burkett’s proven leadership and dedication to patient-centred care make him an outstanding choice for this role,” said David Diegel, chair of the BCHS board of directors. “We look forward to his leadership and innovation.”
BCHS President and CEO Bonnie Camm said Dr. Burkett’s appointment comes at a key moment as the hospital system continues to strengthen academic partnerships and care delivery. “His expertise and collaborative approach will be instrumental as we enhance the quality of care for our community,” she said.
In addition to his work at BCHS, Dr. Burkett has previously served as Medical Director of Quality and Patient Experience for the Waterloo Regional Health Network. He also sits on the Thoracic Advisory Committee for Ontario Health – Cancer Care Ontario. His clinical and academic interests include pleural disease, lung cancer diagnosis, epidemiology and interventional pulmonology.
BCHS also acknowledged Dr. Azra Khan for her role as interim Chief of Staff during the transition, thanking her for supporting patients, families, staff and senior leadership.
BCHS operates Brantford General Hospital and The Willett in Paris, providing hospital care to Brantford, the County of Brant and surrounding communities.
