A major winter storm is continuing to impact southwestern Ontario, with Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reporting 57 collisions and counting across the West Region in the past 12 hours, as of 6:26 p.m. Sunday.
OPP say officers are responding continuously to reports of vehicles in ditches and multiple collisions as heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures create hazardous driving conditions throughout the region.
Police warn conditions are expected to worsen overnight and into Monday.
Authorities are urging drivers to stay off the roads if travel is not essential.
Those who must travel are advised to reduce speed, adjust driving to road and weather conditions, and ensure vehicle lights are fully on for visibility.
OPP also remind motorists to carry a winter emergency kit, including warm clothing, food, water, required medication, and a charged cellphone, in case of a breakdown or traffic delays.
Drivers commuting on Monday are encouraged to allow extra travel time and plan ahead.
Police continue to monitor conditions and respond to incidents as the storm blankets the region.
