Brantford has been selected to host the 2027 Ontario Parasport Games, with the Ontario government committing $200,000 to support the province’s largest multi-sport competition for para-athletes.
The funding, announced this Thursday by the Ministry of Sport, will support the City of Brantford’s organizing efforts and the delivery of the Games, which are expected to attract more than 400 participants, including athletes, coaches and support staff, across 10 sports such as wheelchair basketball, goalball, para ice hockey and wheelchair curling.
Provincial officials estimate the event will generate an economic impact of more than $750,000 for the local economy, driven by increased visitation and tourism.
Sport Minister Neil Lumsden said the Games will provide Ontario’s top para-athletes with a high-level competitive environment as they prepare for national and international events, including the Paralympic Games.
Mayor Kevin Davis said hosting the Parasport Games builds on Brantford’s experience with major provincial sporting events.
The city previously hosted the Ontario Parasport Games in 2017 and the Ontario 55+ Summer Games in 2023.
The Ontario Parasport Games are held every two years and form part of the province’s five multi-sport Games program, alongside the Ontario Summer and Winter Games and the Ontario 55+ Summer and Winter Games.
The events are intended to support athlete development while providing host communities with experience in event delivery, volunteer training and sports tourism.
The Ministry of Sport selects host municipalities through a competitive bidding process.
Expressions of interest for the 2029 Ontario Parasport Games are open until May 15, 2026.
