The Brantford Bulldogs scored seven goals and defeated the Windsor Spitfires 7–3 on Sunday afternoon at the WFCU Centre in an Ontario Hockey League regular-season game.
After a scoreless opening 15 minutes, Windsor opened the scoring on a power-play goal at 15:34 of the first period.
Brantford responded late in the frame, tying the game with a power-play goal at 19:59 to make it 1–1 heading into the first intermission.
The Bulldogs took control in the second period, scoring three times. Brantford struck early at 3:48 before adding goals at 12:15 and 16:16, the latter coming on the power play, to build a 4–2 lead through 40 minutes.
Windsor’s lone second-period goal came on the power play at 8:28.
Brantford extended its lead in the third period with three more goals at 7:16, 9:11 and 11:46, including another power-play marker.
Windsor added a goal at 2:14 of the third, but could not close the gap.
Adam Benák led Brantford offensively with two goals and two assists, while Adam Jiricek recorded a goal and two assists.
Charlie Paquette added three assists in the win. Benák, Jiricek and Paquette were named the game’s three stars.
Goaltender Ryerson Leenders played the full 60 minutes for Brantford, stopping 28 shots.
Windsor’s Joey Costanzo also went the distance, making 19 saves.
Brantford finished the game 3-for-7 on the power play, while Windsor went 2-for-4.
The Bulldogs were assessed seven penalties for 14 minutes, compared to 10 penalties for 20 minutes by the Spitfires.
The game drew an announced attendance of 5,803. With the win, Brantford improved to 28-7-4-1 on the season, remaining atop the Eastern Conference standings.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to host the Peterborough Petes on Friday, January 16, at 7 p.m.
