The City of Brantford will operate on modified schedules over the holiday period from Dec. 24, 2025 to Jan. 2, 2026, with changes affecting municipal offices, transit, waste collection and recreational facilities.
City Hall will be closed on the statutory holidays of Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Jan. 1, while remaining open during regular business hours on non-holiday weekdays.
The city has advised that customer payments will not be processed after 2 p.m. on Dec. 31 as municipal systems transition to the new year.
Brantford Transit and Brantford Lift will end regular service at 6:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve and will not operate on Christmas Day.
Limited service will be offered on Boxing Day, followed by regular schedules from Dec. 27 to Dec. 30. On New Year’s Eve, transit will run until 1 a.m., with free hourly service between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. Both services will be suspended on New Year’s Day.
Curbside garbage, recycling and green bin collection will not take place on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day, with pickup days shifting one day later than normal during those weeks.
The city will also collect Christmas trees at the curb from Jan. 5 to Jan. 16, with residents required to place trees out before 7 a.m. and remove all decorations and stands.
The Mohawk Street Landfill Site will be open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., closing only on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
Several community centres will close for extended periods over the holidays, with limited programming offered at select locations.
The city says regular hours will resume at most facilities in early January.
Brantford Public Library branches will operate on reduced schedules in the days surrounding Christmas and New Year’s, closing on Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Jan. 1, and returning to regular hours on Jan. 2.
Self-serve library kiosks will remain available at select locations, except on statutory holidays.
The Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre will offer reduced hours on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, close on statutory holidays, and resume regular operations on Jan. 2.
Other municipal facilities, including Bell Homestead NHS, TD Civic Centre, Lions Park Arena and the Ontario Works Brantford-Brant Main Office, will follow modified holiday schedules, with closures on statutory holidays and staggered reopenings.
Seasonal programming continues through the holidays, with Brantford Lights at Glenhyrst running nightly until Jan. 1. The city’s New Year’s Eve celebration is scheduled for Dec. 31, featuring skating, live music and a midnight fireworks display in the downtown core.
