The City of Brantford, in partnership with the Neighbourhood Alliance of Brantford, is calling for additional volunteers to join its Snow Buddy program as resident demand for winter maintenance assistance grows.
The initiative pairs volunteers with neighbours who face barriers clearing snow from sidewalks, driveways, and walkways due to age, disability, illness, or other challenges.
“Over 500 Brantford residents have already reached out for support with snow shovelling this year,” said Maegen Rutten, Neighbourhood Program Coordinator.
“By volunteering even a small amount of time, residents can make an immediate difference in someone’s day-to-day life during the winter months.”
Volunteers are matched with individuals living nearby and are asked to help after snowfall events.
Most residents requesting assistance are 65 or older or have a disability or medical condition that limits their ability to safely perform winter maintenance.
The City is encouraging more residents to participate, noting that high school students can earn community service hours through the program.
Applications for Snow Buddy volunteers can be submitted at www.Brantford.ca/Volunteer.
