Beginning today, the Brantford Police Service will implement Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1), a major upgrade to the city’s emergency communications system that promises quicker, more reliable connections during crises.

“Upgrading Ontario’s public safety communications will be a game changer,” said Solicitor General Michael Kerzner, noting the province has provided more than $1.2 million since 2022 to support Brantford’s transition.

“More calls will be answered, more lives will be saved.”

NG9-1-1 introduces a modern, digital platform that improves caller location accuracy, strengthens cybersecurity and builds in redundancy to keep emergency lines functioning during outages.

While residents will continue to dial 9-1-1 as usual, communicators will now have access to enhanced tools that streamline call handling and coordination with first responders.

The system also lays the groundwork for future capabilities, including text, video and image sharing, as national standards expand.

Police officials say the launch follows extensive planning and technical preparation, and reflects an ongoing commitment to providing timely, effective and modern emergency response for Brantford.
