The Brantford Bulldogs forced overtime with a strong second-period push, but the Flint Firebirds capitalized early in the extra frame, skating away with a 3–2 victory Friday night at the TD Civic Centre.

Nathan Aspinall and Jimmy Lombardi powered Flint’s offence, combining on all three goals, including the overtime winner at 3:02. The result improves the Firebirds’ season mark in a tightly played matchup that saw both clubs exchange momentum but remain even on penalty minutes and special-teams chances.

Flint opened the scoring at 9:02 of the first period when Aspinall finished a play set up by Lombardi and Darian Anderson. The Bulldogs pushed back but were unable to solve goaltender Mason Vaccari before the intermission.

Brantford responded with energy in the second period. At 8:12, Jeremy Freeman converted on a play with Parker Holmes and Vladimir Dravecky to tie the game 1–1. Flint regained the lead four minutes later on Aspinall’s second of the night, assisted by Lombardi and Christopher Thibodeau.

The Bulldogs struck again before the period closed. With Brantford on the power play, Cooper Dennis evened the score at 18:40, finishing a sequence involving Adam Jiricek and Sam McCue.

The game was officiated by referees Brad Beer and Aaron Neely, with linesmen Adam Harris and Joe Kielbowich.

The Brantford Bulldogs remain the top team in the Ontario Hockey League’s Eastern Conference, sitting first overall with a league-leading points percentage of .875 after 20 games.

Brantford holds a 15-0-4-1 record, backed by 14 regulation wins and a conference-high 102 goals scored. The Bulldogs also carry a ten-game streak of 7-0-3-0, while operating at 41.3% on the power play and 83.3% on the penalty kill.
