Barry Callebaut, the world’s largest producer of high-quality chocolate and cocoa solutions, officially opened its new manufacturing facility in Brantford on Thursday, marking the company’s third Canadian plant and its first new factory in North America since 2008.

The USD 104 million facility expands the company’s presence in one of Ontario’s fastest-growing food production corridors.

It joins operations in Chatham, Ont., and St. Hyacinthe, Que., further strengthening Barry Callebaut’s North American network.

The plant is equipped with advanced production lines for liquid molding, liquid chocolate and industrial molding, increasing capacity and supporting a wider range of applications for customers across the region.

“Brantford is more than a new facility, it’s a hub for innovation, service and excellence in everything we create,” said Natasha Chen, President, North America.

“This plant will allow us to work even more closely with our customers, delivering the chocolate solutions they need while strengthening our presence in Canada and the entire region.”

Andres Oviedo, Senior Vice President of Regional Operations for the Americas, highlighted the company’s production standards.

“At Barry Callebaut, quality and food safety are at the heart of everything we do,” he said.

“The Brantford facility has been designed to meet the highest standards, ensuring that every product leaving our plant delivers the exceptional taste and quality our customers expect.”

Plant Manager Zeljko Andrasic emphasized the company’s commitment to becoming part of the local community.

“We’re proud to open our doors here in Brantford and become part of this community,” he said.

“This facility is more than just a factory; it’s a place where local talent, innovation and collaboration come together to create the exceptional chocolate our customers love.”

Brantford has become a notable hub for food manufacturing and distribution.

The city is also home to a Ferrero Canada facility and a Hershey Canada distribution centre, further establishing the region as an important player in the sector.

Thursday’s ribbon-cutting welcomed customers, partners and local stakeholders for a first look at the new plant’s capabilities and the company’s expanded operational footprint in North America.

Barry Callebaut, headquartered in Zurich, operates more than 60 production facilities worldwide and employs over 13,000 people.

The Group reported annual sales of approximately CHF 14.8 billion in fiscal year 2024/25.
