The 2025 Hockey Fights Cancer campaign officially kicks off this weekend, celebrating the fifth anniversary of one of Brantford’s most meaningful community hockey traditions.
The Brantford Minor Hockey Association (BMHA) will host 24 games on Saturday, November 15, from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre, bringing together players from Mini-Macs to U18 AAA to support families affected by cancer.
Since its inception, Hockey Fights Cancer in Brantford has raised nearly $200,000 for the Stedman Community Hospice and the Canadian Cancer Society’s Wheels of Hope program.
Organizers hope to surpass that milestone this year, continuing the event’s legacy of compassion and community impact.
“We lace up for Coach JP. For Coach Jay. For every family touched by cancer. Together, we fight as one,” organizers said, highlighting the event’s deep personal meaning within Brantford’s hockey community.
The Brantford Bulldogs are once again partnering as major supporters, helping make the event one of Ontario’s most impactful youth hockey fundraisers.
Fans can expect a full day of action across all four rinks, including a matchup between the U15 A/AA Brantford 99ers and the Cambridge Hawks, part of an expanded lineup welcoming 10 visiting organizations from the Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario.
Throughout the day, Lookout Sports Lounge will donate $1 from every pint and lavender-tape drink sold to the cause.
Residents are encouraged to come out, wear lavender, and cheer on the Brantford 99ers as they skate for hope, strength, and community — proving once again that in Brantford, Hockey Fights Cancer is more than a game.
