Residents looking to get involved in their community will have the opportunity to explore local volunteer opportunities at the Fall Volunteer Fair on Monday, October 20, hosted by the City of Brantford in partnership with the Brant Regional Association of Volunteer Administrators (BRAVA).
The event will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Woodman Park Community Centre, located at 491 Grey Street, and is free to attend.
More than 20 community organizations will be on-site, offering a range of volunteer roles across health care, education, social services, and community programming.
Attendees will be able to speak directly with representatives, ask questions, and learn how to get involved.
Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis said the fair is a chance to recognize the essential role of volunteers in the city.
“The City of Brantford is grateful to the dedicated volunteers whose service strengthens the well-being of our community,” Davis said in a statement.
“Their contributions embody the very spirit of civic engagement and help make Brantford a vibrant and welcoming city.”
Kari Astles, President of BRAVA Brantford-Brant, called volunteering “one of the most powerful ways to build community” and encouraged residents to use the fair as a starting point to get involved.
In addition to learning about volunteer roles, attendees will be entered into a prize draw sponsored by the City of Brantford and BRAVA.
Organizers note that volunteering can also count toward Ontario high school community service requirements.
Participating organizations include:
- City of Brantford
- Brant Community Healthcare System
- Autism Dog Services
- John Noble Home
- VON Canada of Brantford
- Nova Vita
- Kiwanis Club of Brantford
- Kids Can Fly
- Soroptimist International of Grand Erie
…and others representing local non-profit and service sectors.
Organizations interested in participating must register by Friday, October 17, by contacting volunteer@brantford.ca or calling 519-759-4150 ext. 5070. Participation is free for BRAVA members, or $20 for non-members.
