The search for a location to build a new hospital serving Brantford-Brant and surrounding communities has entered a crucial stage, with the launch of a public consultation to help set the criteria that will guide the selection process.

The Task Force leading the project for Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) is asking residents, workers, and visitors in Brantford-Brant, Six Nations of the Grand River, and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation to weigh in through an online survey.

The consultation will remain open until October 3 at hospitalsurvey.ca.

“This is an important moment for our community,” said Don Shilton, Chair of the Site Identification Task Force.

“The decision on where to locate a new hospital will shape health care in this region for many years. We want to hear from as many people as possible about what factors matter most when determining the best site.”

Brantford-Brant is one of the fastest-growing areas in southwestern Ontario, putting pressure on aging infrastructure.

Health officials say the new hospital will be designed to meet current and future demand while advancing equity in access to care.

The Task Force will use public feedback alongside advice from BCHS staff, Indigenous partners, health experts, and the Ministry of Health to finalize selection criteria.

A public call for land proposals is expected later this fall, with a recommendation on a preferred site targeted for spring 2026.

The hospital project is part of the wider Reimagine BCHS initiative, which also includes strengthening services at Brantford General Hospital and The Willett in Paris.

Both sites currently provide acute and urgent care, but officials say a new, modern facility is essential to meet the region’s growing needs.

Residents can learn more and submit questions at ReimagineBCHS.ca or by emailing reimaginebchs@bchsys.org.
