The Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) has officially launched a process to identify a site for a new hospital, a move aimed at meeting the health care needs of the rapidly expanding Brantford-Brant region.
The BCHS Board of Directors has established an independent Task Force to lead the search and recommend a location by spring 2026.
The group includes representatives from the Brantford-Brant community, Six Nations of the Grand River, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
The Task Force will consult residents to determine the key priorities for a hospital site, create evaluation criteria based on that feedback, issue a formal call for land proposals, and assess submissions.
Chaired by Don Shilton, retired president of St. Mary’s General Hospital and a long-time Brantford resident, the Task Force also includes:
- Amos Key Jr., Councillor, Six Nations of the Grand River 59th Elected Council
- Alison Newton, Chief Administrative Officer, County of Brant
- Jodi Rock, Indigenous Health Liaison, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation
- Nicole Wilmot, Chief Planner, Senior Director of Planning and Development, City of Brantford
An independent fairness advisor will oversee the process to ensure transparency and impartiality.
“This marks an exciting milestone in the redevelopment of our health system,” said Bonnie Camm, BCHS President and CEO.
“This process is about more than identifying a parcel of land. It’s about shaping the future of care in Brantford and Brant County for generations to come.”
Public engagement will be a central part of the process. BCHS will share details in the fall about how residents can participate in consultations. Feedback can also be sent to reimagine.bchs@bchsys.org.
The Brantford-Brant area is among the fastest-growing regions in southwestern Ontario.
The new hospital will be part of BCHS’s “Reimagine BCHS” initiative, designed to create a modern, equitable, and patient-focused health syste
