The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board has received provincial approval to tender the construction of St. Padre Pio Catholic Secondary School, a project set to add 1,257 student spaces and 128 licensed child care spots in Brantford.
The new school, to be built at 371 Powerline Road, represents an $81.1-million investment from the province, including $30.4 million in additional funding announced this year.
The facility will serve the city’s growing student population and is part of Ontario’s broader plan to expand education infrastructure.
According to the Ministry of Education, the school will feature modern learning spaces designed to prepare students for careers in both the skilled trades and academic fields. It will also house licensed child care facilities to support local families.
Will Bouma, MPP for Brantford–Brant, called the funding “great news for our community,” while Education Minister Paul Calandra described the project as an “inspiring learning environment” that will help students “prepare for the jobs of tomorrow.”
Board Chair Carol Lucinai said the project reflects the board’s “dedication to providing students with modern learning environments that inspire collaboration, innovation, and lifelong faith-guided learning.”
The province says the investment is part of its 10-year, $23-billion commitment to school construction, renewal, and upgrades.
Since 2018, Ontario has funded 169 new schools, 124 major additions or renovations, and more than 9,600 new licensed child care spaces in schools.
