The City of Brantford formally recognized Frank and Nancy DiFelice on Thursday evening for their long-standing contributions to the city’s musical and cultural life.

A public ceremony was held at the Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts, where the couple was presented with a commemorative plaque.

Frank and Nancy DiFelice are the founders and long-time producers of both the Brantford Downtown Jazz Series and the Brantford International Jazz Festival.

The plaque, which will be permanently displayed on the Local Music Recognition Wall inside the Sanderson Centre, acknowledges their work in bringing jazz music to Brantford audiences for over 26 years. This includes 17 years of programming in Harmony Square.

Speaking at the event, Mayor Kevin Davis commended the DiFelices for their role in shaping Brantford’s cultural and tourism sectors.

“The DiFelices have brought joy to tens of thousands through music, fostered local talent, and drawn international artists to our community,” Davis said. “Their impact on Brantford’s cultural and tourism landscape cannot be overstated.”

The Brantford International Jazz Festival, which began with an estimated 8,000 attendees in its early years, eventually drew crowds of up to 25,000 over a three-day span, according to the city.

City officials noted the festival’s positive effect on local tourism and the performing arts sector.

City Councillor Richard Carpenter, who introduced the resolution to honour the DiFelices, described their work as instrumental in building Brantford’s arts community.

“Their events became a stage not only for internationally renowned performers, but also for local talent,” Carpenter said. The resolution was unanimously approved by City Council in June.

The City of Brantford stated that the plaque installation and recognition ceremony are part of its broader commitment to supporting and celebrating the arts as a core component of civic life.
