Flamborough — Ten-year-old Hope has lived her entire life managing cystic fibrosis.
Diagnosed as an infant, she takes daily medications and undergoes multiple treatments to keep the disease in check.
On August 28th, Flamborough Hills Golf Club will host a charity golf tournament to raise funds to help cover the cost of Hope’s medications.
The event is being organized by Realty Advisors & Co., with support from family, friends, and local businesses.
“Hi, my name is Hope. I’m 10 years old. I live with cystic fibrosis,” she said in a video message shared online.
“I take like 30 pills a day, doing treatments. I go to bed, I wake up, I do a treatment, I take my meds. After a little while, you get used to it”, she added.
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and affects the digestive system.
In Canada, an estimated 4,400 people are living with cystic fibrosis, according to Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
It is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults. While treatments have improved over time, there is no known cure.
Dozens of teams have already registered to participate in the golf tournament.
Local businesses are stepping up as sponsors, and Hope’s family and friends are supporting the event by signing up to golf.
Proceeds raised will go directly to Hope and her family to help pay for the medications she relies on every day.
