A 28-year-old Hamilton man is facing trafficking charges after Brantford Police seized more than $29,000 worth of illegal psilocybin during a raid at an unauthorized retail storefront.
According to Brantford Police Service, the investigation began on June 18, 2025, after officers received information that the illegal psilocybin business, previously shut down by authorities, had resumed operations on Murray Street near Chatham Street.
Following weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering, members of the Drug and Firearm Enforcement Unit, with assistance from the Core Engagement and Response Unit, Criminal Intelligence Unit, and Forensic Identification Section, executed a search warrant on July 2, 2025.
Police say the operation resulted in the seizure of approximately 2,596.5 grams of psilocybin—commonly known as “magic mushrooms”—with an estimated street value of $29,674.
The suspect was arrested at the scene without incident. He has been charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Schedule III, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
“Psilocybin remains a controlled substance in Canada, and unlicensed retail operations pose significant risks to public health and safety,” police said in a statement Friday.
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
