Grand Erie Public Health (GEPH) is alerting the public to a potential measles exposure at Brantford General Hospital’s Labour and Delivery Unit.
Individuals who were at the hospital, located at 200 Terrace Hill Street, on May 26, 2025, between 8:06 p.m. and 11:06 p.m., may have been exposed to the measles virus.
Public health officials are urging anyone born in or after 1970 who has not had a previous measles infection and has not received two doses of a measles-containing vaccine to review their immunization status. These individuals are considered at risk if exposed to the virus.
To reduce the risk of infection, GEPH recommends:
- MMR vaccination within 72 hours of exposure for eligible individuals.
- Immunoglobulin treatment within 6 days for high-risk groups, including infants, pregnant people, and those who are immunocompromised.
Anyone who was present at the specified location during the exposure window or who believes they may have been exposed to measles elsewhere is urged to complete the online Measles Exposure Form. This will allow GEPH to assess individual risk and provide follow-up care as needed.
Additional information, including measles symptoms and prevention guidelines, is available at bchu.org/measles or hnhu.org/measles.
Grand Erie Public Health was formed in January 2025 following the merger of the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit and the Brant County Health Unit.
The agency serves Brantford, Brant County, Haldimand, and Norfolk counties, focusing on disease prevention, community health promotion, and public health education.
