The City of Brantford is warning residents to be cautious when hiring contractors for driveway and street-front work, following reports of construction being carried out without the necessary municipal permits.
City officials have noted a rise in contractors performing work within the public right-of-way—such as curb or driveway alterations—without first securing a Right-of-Way Activity Permit.
Under municipal regulations, all work on city streets, including by private contractors and utility companies, requires an approved permit. The City emphasizes that it is the homeowner’s responsibility to ensure proper permits are in place before any work begins.
Permits are issued by email and can be obtained through Brantford.ca/RightofWay. Homeowners are encouraged to request a copy of the approved permit directly from their contractor prior to construction.
