The County of Brant’s Economic Development and Tourism Division has released its 2024 Year-End Report, highlighting strong industrial growth, job creation, and cultural milestones that defined a landmark year for the rural municipality.

“2024 was a very productive year for our division,” said Zach Gable, Director of Economic Development and Tourism. “Council approved the refreshed Economic Development Strategy and the Arts, Culture and Heritage Strategy, which will guide our work for the years ahead.”

According to the report, approximately $26 million in industrial and commercial building permits were issued in 2024, reflecting continued economic expansion. A notable project included a 25,000-square-foot expansion by Domite Wear Technology in Paris.

Job growth also continued on an upward trajectory, with a net gain of 2,716 jobs across the County from 2020 to 2024.

Cultural initiatives were front and centre, with Brant recognized nationally as one of the top ten participating communities for Culture Days. The County served as an official “Festival Hub,” hosting 48 events in collaboration with local organizations. Additionally, the St. George Applefest celebrated its 40th anniversary, drawing an estimated 30,000 visitors over the weekend.

In total, more than 137,000 people attended special events in Brant last year, bolstering tourism and community engagement.

The report also includes comparative data on development charges, building permits, and tax rates, reinforcing Brant’s appeal as a competitive and growing region.

Looking ahead, the County plans to focus efforts in 2025 on the “Downtown Dig” initiative and continued support for the Downtown Paris Business Improvement Area during ongoing construction work.

“Our Economic Development and Tourism team is looking forward to 2025,” said Gable. “We are committed to supporting our business community and working with community partners on tourism, arts, culture and heritage initiatives. The future holds exciting opportunities for growth and collaboration.”
