A 33-year-old Brantford man has been charged following a violent stabbing that occurred in the downtown core late Saturday night.
At approximately 10:40 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, Brantford Police Service (BPS) officers responded to reports of a stabbing near the intersection of Dalhousie Street and Market Street. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim on the ground suffering from multiple stab wounds. Emergency medical personnel provided life-saving aid at the scene before transporting the victim to hospital by ambulance. He remains in serious but stable condition, according to police.
Police immediately secured the area and launched an investigation, enlisting the support of the Major Crime Unit, Emergency Response Team, and Forensic Identification Unit.
During the initial response, officers encountered an unrelated female who approached an officer and, without provocation, assaulted them. The officer was not seriously injured, and the female was promptly taken into custody and charged. Police have not released further details regarding this separate incident.
As the investigation progressed, police determined that the stabbing stemmed from an altercation involving the victim and a group of individuals. During the confrontation, a male suspect allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene. He was later located by police and arrested without incident.
The accused, a 33-year-old man from Brantford, has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada:
- Assault with a Weapon – Section 267(a)
- Aggravated Assault – Section 268
