The Brantford Bulldogs announced Friday that General Manager Matt Turek will be departing the organization, effective immediately, after the two sides were unable to reach an agreement on a contract extension.

Turek, who joined the Bulldogs in their inaugural 2015-16 season as a scout, was later promoted to Director of Player Personnel in 2017-18.

He played a key role under then-General Manager Steve Staios during the club’s 2021-22 Ontario Hockey League championship run, which culminated in capturing the J. Ross Robertson Cup.

Appointed General Manager ahead of the 2022-23 season, Turek led a reshaping of the Bulldogs roster, acquiring players such as Nick Lardis, Tomas Hamara, and Thomas Budnick through trades.

He was also credited with overseeing two strong drafts, highlighted by first-round selections Jake O’Brien and Aiden O’Donnell.

In a statement, the Bulldogs thanked Turek for his contributions during his tenure in both Hamilton and Brantford, crediting his efforts with setting the foundation for the team’s future success.

The organization extended its best wishes to Turek as he pursues the next chapter of his career.
