A break and enter in a residential neighbourhood prompted a significant police response late Thursday morning after reports surfaced of a man with a firearm in the area of Sheridan Street and Stanley Street.

At approximately 11:00 a.m., Brantford Police Service officers were dispatched to the scene after a caller reported seeing a man armed with a gun. As a precautionary measure, two nearby schools were placed in a temporary hold and secure while police investigated.

According to police, the incident stemmed from a break-in at a home on Sheridan Street. The homeowner, who was legally in possession of a firearm, reportedly confronted and pursued the suspect who had entered the residence.

During the subsequent search for the suspects, officers encountered a man who matched the description of the individual seen with the firearm. He was briefly detained but released after his identity was verified and he was determined not to be involved in the break-in.
