Grand Erie Public Health (GEPH) is advising the public of a confirmed measles exposure at Houghton Public School, located on RR #5 in Langton.
The potential exposure occurred on April 8 and 10 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Individuals born in or after 1970 who have not had a previous measles infection and have not received two doses of a measles-containing vaccine are considered at risk.
Public health officials recommend that those exposed seek the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine within 72 hours of exposure to reduce the risk of infection.
Those at higher risk, such as infants, pregnant individuals, and the immunocompromised, may be eligible for immunoglobulin within six days of exposure to help prevent or lessen the severity of illness.
Anyone present at the school during the noted times or who may have been exposed to measles elsewhere in the region is asked to complete an online measles exposure form at www.geph.ca/measlesform.
The form will help health officials assess individual risk and provide guidance on next steps to prevent further transmission.
