The Brantford Bulldogs opened their second-round OHL playoff series with a thrilling 5-2 comeback win over the Oshawa Generals on Thursday night at the Brantford Civic Centre.
Oshawa came out strong, scoring twice in the first period and outshooting the Bulldogs 19-10. But momentum shifted early in the second when Brantford’s starting goalie Ryerson Leenders left with an injury. Backup David Egorov stepped in and stood tall, stopping all 23 shots he faced.
Thomas Budnick sparked the Bulldogs’ rally with a goal at 5:39. Cole Brown and Luca Testa added goals to give Brantford a 3-2 lead heading into the third.
Jake O’Brien set up Marek Vanacker on a power-play tip-in midway through the final period, and Nick Lardis sealed the win with an empty-netter in the final seconds.
The Bulldogs now lead the best-of-seven series 1-0. Game 2 is set for Sunday, April 13 at 2:00 p.m. in Brantford.
