The Brantford Bulldogs wrapped up their regular season in style on Sunday afternoon with a 7-2 win over the Ottawa 67’s, capping off Fan Appreciation Day at the Brantford Civic Centre.
Before the puck dropped, the team officially opened the BFD Outdoor District, a new fan zone that welcomed supporters for a pre-game celebration.
Ceremonies honoured longtime team doctor Dr. David Robinson and overagers Thomas Budnick, Tomas Hamara, Ben Bujold, and captain Patrick Thomas. Country star Brett Kissel performed the national anthem.
Despite resting key players ahead of the playoffs, the Bulldogs didn’t miss a beat.
Luca Diplacido made his OHL debut and notched an assist on a first-period goal by Daniel Chen. Noah Nelson and Nikolas Rossetto each scored twice, while Dylan Tsherna recorded a goal and two assists.
Rookie goaltender David Egorov made several key saves to preserve the lead.
Tensions rose in a penalty-heavy third period that included a fight involving Chen, completing his “Gordie Howe Hat-Trick.”
The Bulldogs, who secured the top seed in the Eastern Conference, now turn their focus to the playoffs.
They’ll open their first-round series at home against the North Bay Battalion on Friday, March 28 at 7:00 p.m.
