Grand Erie Public Health (GEPH) is warning residents of potential measles exposure at multiple locations in the region following the confirmation of three new cases.

Health officials say individuals who were at specific locations during the identified timeframes may have been exposed and should monitor for symptoms.

The locations include the Delhi Community Health Centre Walk-In Clinic at 105 Main Street in Delhi on March 7, 2025, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Glen Meyer Old Colony School at 1436 1st Concession Road in Langton from March 3 to March 5, 2025, between 8:45 a.m. and 5 p.m.; and Valley Heights Secondary School during a Safety Night event at 2561 Highway 59 South in Langton on February 25, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

GEPH has urged those who may have been exposed or who suspect exposure elsewhere in the community to complete a measles exposure form on its website. The form helps public health officials assess risk levels and provide guidance on preventive measures.

Health experts emphasize that individuals born in or after 1970 who have not had measles or received two doses of a measles-containing vaccine are at higher risk of infection.

The Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccine can reduce the likelihood of illness if administered within 72 hours of exposure. Additionally, certain high-risk individuals—including infants, pregnant individuals, and those with weakened immune systems—may be eligible for immunoglobulin treatment within six days of exposure to lessen the severity of infection.

Measles symptoms typically include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash that spreads from the face to the rest of the body.

GEPH advises individuals experiencing these symptoms to contact a healthcare provider before visiting a medical facility to prevent further transmission.

Further information on measles exposure risks and protective measures is available on the health unit’s website www.bchu.org/measles or www.hnhu.org/measles.

Grand Erie Public Health was formed in January 2025 following the merger of the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit and the Brant County Health Unit. It serves the County of Brant, the City of Brantford, Haldimand County, and Norfolk County, working to protect and promote public health under the Ontario Public Health Standards and the Health Protection and Promotion Act.
