Grand Erie Public Health (GEPH) has issued a public advisory following a confirmed measles exposure at a Simcoe healthcare facility. Individuals who visited the Family Practice Office and Pharmacy at Roulston’s Wellness Centre, located at 65 Donly Dr. N., on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, between 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., may have been exposed to the virus.
Measles, a highly contagious airborne disease, spreads through respiratory droplets and direct contact. Health officials warn that anyone born in or after 1970 who has not had a prior measles infection or has not received two doses of a measles-containing vaccine is at risk.
Public health authorities urge those potentially exposed to take immediate precautions:
- Vaccination: Receiving the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine within 72 hours of exposure may help prevent infection.
- Immunoglobulin Treatment: High-risk individuals—including infants, pregnant individuals, and those who are immunocompromised—may be eligible for immunoglobulin treatment within six days of exposure to mitigate the severity of infection.
GEPH is encouraging anyone who was present at the clinic during the identified time or suspects they were exposed elsewhere to complete the measles exposure form at www.geph.ca/measlesform. This will assist health officials in assessing risk and providing necessary guidance to curb further transmission.
