Dr. Malcolm Lock, Longtime Medical Officer of Health, Passes Away

Dr. Malcolm Lock, a dedicated physician and public health leader, has passed away. Dr. Lock served as a Medical Officer of Health for more than two decades and was most recently the Acting Medical Officer of Health for Grand Erie Public Health.

Dr. Lock’s career was marked by a steadfast commitment to both private medical practice and public health initiatives.

After completing his medical studies in Ireland, he relocated to Brantford, Ontario, where he established himself as a general practitioner. Over three decades, he provided care to numerous patients while also taking on leadership roles in public health.

He previously served as the Medical Officer of Health for the Brant County Health Unit and the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit before assuming the role of Acting Medical Officer of Health for Grand Erie Public Health.

His efforts in patient care and public health policies contributed significantly to the well-being of communities across the region.

The Board of Health expressed its condolences to Dr. Lock’s family, friends, and colleagues.

“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to Dr. Lock’s loved ones during this difficult time,” said John Bell, Acting Chair of the Board of Health for Grand Erie Public Health. “His dedication and service to public health have left a lasting impact on our community.”

Grand Erie Public Health, which was formed in January 2025 through the merger of the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit and the Brant County Health Unit, serves the County of Brant, City of Brantford, Haldimand County, and Norfolk County.

The organization remains committed to promoting and protecting community health through evidence-based programs and collaboration with local partners.

Dr. Lock’s contributions to public health and his decades of service will be remembered by many. The family has requested privacy during this time of mourning.
