Grand Erie Public Health (GEPH) has confirmed five additional cases of measles in Norfolk County, bringing the total number of cases in the region to 53.

The outbreak now includes eight adults and 45 children across the Grand Erie region, which encompasses Haldimand County, Norfolk County, the City of Brantford, and the County of Brant.

Health officials say the newly identified cases are recovering at home. Investigations are ongoing, with public health authorities following up on known contacts who may have been exposed to the virus.

As part of the ongoing investigation, GEPH has identified three potential exposure sites at Norfolk General Hospital in Simcoe on the following dates and times:

  • February 14, 2025 – Between 9:20 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.
  • February 16, 2025 – Between 12:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
  • February 18, 2025 – Between 7:30 a.m. and 9:50 a.m.

Public health officials urge anyone who visited the hospital during these times to monitor for symptoms and consult their healthcare provider if they experience signs of measles.

To help curb the outbreak, GEPH will be hosting a measles vaccine clinic on February 20 at the Brantford-Brant Health Unit. The clinic is open to all unvaccinated and under-vaccinated residents of the Grand Erie region.

Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that spreads through airborne droplets from coughing or sneezing. Symptoms typically appear 7 to 21 days after exposure and include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Runny nose
  • Red, watery eyes
  • A red rash that spreads from the face to the rest of the body

GEPH encourages residents to review their vaccination status and ensure they are protected. For more information about measles, symptoms, and prevention measures, visit:
