The City of Brantford has announced the opening of Pinehurst Childcare Centre, a newly licensed child-care facility in Paris, offering 97 spaces for families in the community. As the consolidated municipal service manager, the City of Brantford oversees child care and early years services in the County of Brant. The new centre is part of a broader initiative to create 985 new child-care spaces in Brantford and the County of Brant between 2022 and 2026.
Providing affordable and accessible child care for families is a key objective outlined in Building Our Community from the Kids Up, Brantford-Brant’s 10-Year Child Care and Early Learning Plan, and aligns with the provincial and Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) initiative. Since the start of this initiative, 386 new community-based child-care spaces for children aged 0-5 have been established through new centres, expansions at existing child-care facilities, and the development of new home-based licensed spaces.
Over the next three years, an additional 270 community-based spaces and 329 full-day school-based spaces will become available at the following schools:
- Banbury Heights Public Elementary School
- Cobblestone Public Elementary School
- The new West Brant Public Elementary School
- Sainte-Marguerite-Bourgeoys Catholic Elementary School
- St. Padre Pio Catholic Secondary School
Families interested in applying for spaces at Pinehurst Childcare Centre or other licensed centres can use OneList Brantford-Brant, which allows them to submit applications to multiple centres, explore locations on a map, learn about child-care providers, and determine fee reductions available through CWELCC. The City of Brantford also provides child-care fee subsidies for eligible families working or attending school, with further information available at Brantford.ca/ChildrensServices.
The City of Brantford acknowledges the contributions of the Province of Ontario and the Government of Canada in supporting the expansion of child-care services, making affordable and accessible child care a reality for local families.
Mayor Kevin Davis expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts involved in establishing Pinehurst Childcare Centre. “With the opening of these new spaces, more parents and caregivers can balance their careers, education, and family at a reasonable cost with peace of mind. The City of Brantford is committed to building a supportive community that allows children and families to flourish. I want to express my sincere gratitude to Pinehurst Childcare Centre, City staff, and all those who worked to make this new child-care centre possible.”
