The City of Brantford is gearing up for a lively Family Day long weekend, offering a variety of activities for residents and visitors of all ages. From downtown festivities to sports events and historical tours, the city is rolling out a schedule filled with opportunities for fun and community engagement.
Ward 2 Councillor Gino Caputo highlighted the significance of the new Brantford Fun Fest series, which will debut this weekend. “As Brantford continues to grow, we’re proud to offer high-quality amenities and experiences for our community to enjoy,” Caputo stated. “We are also working on finalizing and announcing plans for a summer festival.”
On Sunday, February 16, the inaugural Brantford Winter Fun Fest will take over downtown from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Harmony Square will transform into a hub of activity with a DJ skate party, carousel rides, fire pits with s’mores, face painting, and a horse-drawn trolley ride. The event will culminate in a fireworks display at 7:15 p.m.
Wilfrid Laurier University will also mark its 25th anniversary in Brantford with a Purple and Gold Party at One Market from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The celebration will include bouncy castles, interactive games, entertainment, and complimentary cupcakes while supplies last.
On Monday, February 17, Family Day activities will continue across the city. The Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre will host public skating and swimming sessions, while the Bell Homestead National Historic Site will offer discounted guided tours. For sports enthusiasts, the city is partnering with Pickleball Brantford to host a family tournament at Doug Snooks Eagle Place Community Centre.
To accommodate the Winter Fun Fest, road closures will be in effect in downtown Brantford on February 16 from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., with free parking available at the municipal garage on Icomm Drive.
The city is also seeking volunteers for the festival, with opportunities available for high school students to earn community hours. Those interested can contact Harmony Square organizers for details.
