The Brantford Police Service (BPS) has launched a new initiative aimed at improving community safety and addressing crime in key areas of the city. Beginning January 1, 2025, the newly formed Core Engagement and Response Team (CERT) will combine the efforts of the previously separate Better Enforcement Action Team (BEAT) and Outward Facing Special Constable units.
The CERT team will focus its operations on the Downtown Core, with additional patrol responsibilities extending to key locations such as the plaza at 50 Market Street South, 1100 Clarence Street, and the emerging Entertainment District along Market Street South. This realignment is intended to optimize resource deployment and enhance enforcement efforts.
The team comprises both sworn police officers and special constables, working in collaboration to address crime, enforce bylaws, and curb unwanted behaviors in these high-priority areas. The CERT initiative aims to bolster the capacity of front-line patrol officers, enabling them to focus on broader community-wide safety concerns.
Brantford Police emphasize that community safety requires cooperation and engagement from all sectors. To that end, the service continues to partner with local organizations and stakeholders, seeking to implement both immediate and long-term strategies to improve public safety and well-being throughout the city.
This development represents a proactive approach to policing in Brantford, highlighting the importance of resource coordination and community partnerships in addressing safety challenges
