Brantford Police are investigating the deaths of two individuals discovered in an encampment in the Eagle Place area on Thursday evening.
Officers responded to a report at approximately 5:18 p.m. on December 26, 2024. Upon arrival, police located the bodies of two deceased individuals.
Investigators have stated that foul play is not suspected at this time. The Brantford Police Service is collaborating with the Office of the Chief Coroner as part of the investigation.
Authorities are also encouraging the community to prioritize safe drug use practices and to seek support through local substance use services.
In a statement, Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis expressed condolences to those affected by the tragedy.
“On behalf of Brantford City Council and City staff, I extend my deepest sympathies to all those impacted by the recent discovery of two deceased individuals in an encampment in Brantford. My heart goes out to our fellow community members’ families and loved ones at this very difficult time,” the statement read.
The mayor highlighted the city’s ongoing efforts to support individuals experiencing homelessness, including the work of its Encampment Response Team. Formed in 2023, the team is made up of outreach workers supported by Brantford Police, Brantford Brant Paramedic Service, and other partners.
“Although the City’s exceptionally dedicated Homelessness Response Team works tirelessly to help individuals in encampments find alternate shelter, we may not always be aware of every encampment in the city,” the mayor stated.
